In this article, I will let you know about the basic on-page SEO Checklist for your website which will make sure your webpage show on google and other search engines.

  1. WebSite is protected with SSL
    With Google becoming the best search engine for any of our need and most of the time we find things on google only. Having SSL certificate on your website is a must because it is highly recommended by google and google make sure to show NOT SECURE in the chrome browser if any website doesn’t have an SSL certificate on it. SSL is Secured Service Layer which is encryption between the user’s browser and make sure whatever information is entered by the user is sent to the server in an encryption format.
    If your website doesn’t have an SSL certificate then the third party may get access to the information which you are filling in the website such as Credit Card No. , Phone No., Email Address, etc
  2. Submit your Sitemap
    A sitemap is a page of a website usually in .XML format which contains all the list of webpages that are inside of a website. So when Google bots came in your website it usually looks for sitemap page which helps it to scan your website in one go. It is very important to submit your sitemap to google search engine.
  3. Create your robot.txt file
    A robot.txt file is somewhat similar to your sitemap. Its main purpose is to let the Google bot know that what it pages it doesn’t have to crawl and doesn’t have to show up on google search engine. So It is also important to have robot.txt file and upload it to your web server where your website files are stored.
  4. Optimize your webpage titles
    When you search on google and the page that you see is SERP (Search Engine Result Page) which list many pages with titles and description. So you have to optimize your website page titles in such manner that the text should not cut while displaying it. Minimum words for webpage titles is 60 Words. Google typically displays the first 50–60 characters of a title tag.
  5. Optimize your webpage descriptions
    When you search on google and the page that you see is SERP (Search Engine Result Page) which list many pages with titles and description. So you have to optimize your website page description in such a manner that the text should not cut while displaying it. I recommend descriptions between 50–160 characters. Put important & relevant information in it so that it drives clicks on it.
  6. Make your web pages accessible
    Make sure to connect your website on Google search console so that google crawlers index your website from time to time.
  7. Optimize your page headings tags
    In website development, there are six heading tags ranging from H1 – H6. Search engine put weight on using heading tags and how relevantly you have used heading tags on your website. Do not use multiple H1 tags on a page. Multiple H2, H3, H4 Heading tags are allowed on a web page and its good practice to use headings in a webpage.
  8. Write engaging content
    Write engaging content on your website so that it is relevant and useful for the users coming onto your website. Serve what user is expecting from your website. Use images and facts onto your website.
  9. Make sure your page tags are unique
    Do not use the same titles for all the webpages on your website. Use unique page titles for your website so that search engine differentiate different web pages.
  10. Add images to your web pages
    A picture is worth a thousand words. Use images in your webpages so that it is easy for the users to understand what you’re conveying.
